Orimba Alam Kreasi (OAK) kicked off the new year with its inaugural townhall, bringing together all Orimbawan and Orimbawati to set the tone for an ambitious 2025. The event marked a pivotal moment for the company, celebrating its recent establishment and unveiling its key strategies and commitments for the year.
In his opening remarks, President Commissioner Amir Sunarko reflected upon his 40-year legacy in the forestry industry, emphasizing his enduring vision to be a leading-edge forestry company on the forefront of manufacturing sustainable wood products.
“The birth of Orimba Alam Kreasi is an important milestone in our history and signifies our commitment to sustainability,” Amir said. “It is important we remain resilient during challenging times and approach new opportunities with strong hopes, optimism, boldness, and innovation.”
The townhall featured a keynote address from CEO Andrew Sunarko, who presented OAK’s Annual Business Plan and Strategic Activities. Andrew highlighted OAK’s mission as a next-generation forestry company to address the challenges of climate mitigation and adaptation in the forestry and land use sector.
“The role of forests is more important than ever,” Andrew emphasized. “Forests are natural climate solutions and play a critical role in mitigating climate change and protecting biodiversity. At OAK, we deeply believe in the power of wood as a regenerative material more than just a product, it’s a solution.”
Andrew outlined OAK’s unique position in the supply chain as a bridge connecting forests to the global market. He stressed the company’s dual responsibility: working with suppliers to foster sustainable forest management and engaging with customers to promote awareness and responsibility for sustainable products.
“Building strong alignment and long-term partnerships ensures a resilient supply chain that will maintain the ecological integrity of our forests, and improve community livelihoods.”
One of the most anticipated announcements was the launch of OAK’s Sustainable Forest Partnership Program (SFPP), designed to support partner suppliers in improving their sustainable forest management practices. Working with experienced forest NGOs and technical service providers, the program aims to enhance conservation efforts, reduce emissions through better land use, improve community livelihoods, and promote gender equality.
Through the SFPP, OAK will provide training, capacity building, technical assistance, and access to grants for committed suppliers. Key practices include:
• High Conservation Value (HCV) Approach
• Implementing Reduced-Impact Logging practices
• Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)
• Community benefit-sharing agreements
• Grievance management systems
“We are excited to collaborate with a range of stakeholders through this program,” Andrew said. “It’s a vital step towards ensuring these vital tropical forests are managed and protected for generations to come.”
As OAK moves forward, its focus for 2025 will center on stability, quality, and trust:
• Strengthening Governance: Ensuring environmental and social policies are effectively implemented across operations.
• Supplier Partnerships: Deepening relationships through sustainable sourcing policies and the Sustainable Forest Partnership Program.
• Customer Relationships: Maintaining product quality, timely delivery, and promoting FSC-certified wood products.
• Operational Efficiency: Adopting new technology and productivity tools to streamline processes.
Andrew concluded the townhall with a call to action: “This year requires strong accountability and collaboration across all departments. Together, we can achieve our goals and ensure smooth processes. Let's start the year strong, and I wish everyone the best of luck in the year ahead.”
As OAK continues its journey, the company remains committed to its vision of sustainable forestry and its role as a key player in the global supply chain. With initiatives like the Sustainable Forest Partnership Program and a strong focus on governance and innovation, OAK is poised to lead the way in creating a sustainable and inclusive future for forests and communities alike.
