For three generations, we have seen three rotation cycles of forests and had the firsthand privilege to witness that sustainably managed forests can provide materials for our needs while maintaining ecological integrity and improving the livelihoods of rural forest communities.

OAK launched the Sustainable Forest Partnership Program (SFPP) to support its third-party suppliers to manage & protect their forests.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The SFPP is a program promoting better land use practices, forest and biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development for local forest communities by suppliers in our supply chain.
Bolster suppliers’ commitment to No Deforestation, No Peat and No Exploitation (NDPE)

Increase awareness, knowledge and capacity amongst suppliers to adopt best practices in Sustainable Forest Management

Prioritize conservation through high conservation value (HCV) approach and determine set-aside areas to protect areas of ecological and biodiversity importance

Encourage suppliers to manage HCV areas under precautionary approach and implementing Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) practices in natural forests

Encourage suppliers to conduct sosial & community engagement and community development leading to improvement in community livelihoods

Promote gender equality

Support suppliers to achieve or maintain international voluntary SFM certification

Why what we do matters?

Natural forests are under pressure for land use conversion for agriculture and illegal activities in the absence of commercially viable and sustainable alternatives.

One sustainable source of finance for the long-term protection of natural forests and for the livelihoods of local communities is well-managed selective harvesting of commercial timber.
